A Question About Politics and Trading, from Jim Lackey
November 29, 2012 |
Has anyone on this site profited from the political news flow the past year or two? I ask because I have found it has hurt my results. I am not asking how you do it. I am considering going back to where I began–simply ignoring all news flow. Problem for me is I had nice results on the "get the joke" on biz news flow from 99 to 2006 ish. Yet today I can't read a biz article with out the political being the theme.

George Costanza has the solution for you, Mr. Lackey.
Seinfeld to the rescue once again.

Matthew, that was my original idea

and one I based my trading on, before I learned the scientific method from this website and Mr Vic.
Its a good idea, in general to go against what is on the TV.. as anyone on the tv is already long or short so who is left to buy or sell? How much more, is the question.. I can trade that. A qualitative back up plan.
Yet the political… is much different.. I tried if 2-3 in a row go up, go other way.. Ive tried to count them Ive tried to flow them Ive tried to read the European websites and wait for it to hit the US news then go the other way.. I can;t seem to find a way.
Thank you for your advice.. If I get the joke, I am the last to know the news.. therefore I should ignore all news flow..I used that for a few years with great personal success.. as PNL comes and goes with the waves and the trade winds..but the mumbo stuck in our brains and we wake up to nightmares about the federalies raiding my market… now that is effecting my family’s happiness. I’d rather be the overly optimistic man. After all optimism is currently contra trading!
I never enjoyed or found any interest in the political. I grew up in and near Chicago and everyone knew not to fight city hall. lack
You see this news flow? Gas, gas, gas.

Yo. Lack. Email me bro. I’m writing a book and I want you to be in it. From the Broadway days…
