Comets, from Jeff Watson

June 20, 2011 |

Here is a great page that has a list of visible comets on a month by month basis, good through the next few years. There are some pretty nice comets in the sky right now and a good 4.5" Newtonian will suffice to get an excellent view of all of the comets listed. Not all comets are listed, and many comets are out there, ready to be discovered.

Interesting information, Jeff, but it does appear that many of the comets listed are pretty faint right now. Dark skies and a scope larger than 4.5″ is probably needed for the majority of them.

@Rich, I had no problem seeing this month’s crop with my 4.5 and getting pictures, but then again I have very dark skies at my location. Of course, I got a better peek with my Dob, but that’s a whole different story.
