Worse than jealousy is envy. A good precis of its horrible tentacles is Helmut Schoeck's book: Envy: A Theory of Social Behaviour.

    Victor:

I hope all is well. We have not been in touch for a while but I asked Princeton University Press to send you a copy of my book “The Story of Silver: How the White Metal Shaped America and the Modern World” that was just published on Feb 5. Did you get it? I know you are an expert on silver and I would welcome your thoughts.

    Best,

    Bill

    Victor,
I agree! And altruism is a rationalization for envy. It’s an attempt to justify to one’s self and others, the evil pleasure destroying others’ achievements.

Regarding that, and the antidote — Ayn Rand…

I am a businessman who has decided to try to help the Ayn Rand Institute massively expand its reach. We met a long time ago at a Junto meeting, incidentally.

ARI provides free Ayn Rand novels to teachers and their classrooms. So far teachers have requested 2.5 million novels that we’ve fulfilled. It’s an enormous drive, and we constantly need funding. $7 per book.

I know how meaningful Rand’s works are to you, as they were to me when I first read them in high school. I think I can say they saved my life, or at least gave me a life. Let’s help other kids get the same gift.

We are also creating a digital platform to provide a free, in-depth, education on Objectivism to anyone in the world. Lots of other developments too. All need funding, of course.

Would you be able to help with the books for teachers program? Want to learn more? Do you know anyone else who might, as well?

Thank you so much for your limited time. Happy to talk, meet, or respond to questions.
